32nd Company, U.S. Naval Academy Class of ’82

Applegate, Ben – – (8/12/05) I transferred to Miami University (Ohio) where I met Sheila Gibbons, whom I married in 1983. I went on to Loyola Law School of Chicago. After graduation in 1985, I practiced commercial real estate law in a large Chicago firm before forming my own firm in 1998. We now have 15 attorneys and specialize in affordable housing and community development, representing developers, nonprofits, investors and lenders on affordable housing developments across the country.

I have five incredible sons ranging from 19 to 10 years of age. My oldest is a sophomore at Boston College, the next two are in high school with the last two in junior high and elementary school. I have kept in contact with my roommate, Kelly Baragar, but would love to hear from others from the class of 82. Although I have been incredibly blessed in life since leaving the Academy, the decision to leave was probably the biggest regret in my life. I am a strong supporter of the Academy’s mission and value the time I spent there.

Kenny, Philip Stephen-May he rest in peace. Steve Kenny was killed on May 10th, 2003 in an in-flight accident while delivering an aircraft to Canada for air-to-air combat training. Steve had been flying for Delta out of Atlanta for the last few years and had also been flying for a commercial company ATIS, providing combat air training for U.S. and Canadian forces. Steve’s funeral was held in his hometown of Ogden Utah and was attended by many of his companymates from 32nd company and his fellow pilots from Delta. Steve leaves behind his parents and four brothers and sisters. Steve is the fifteenth classmate that we have lost since we came together as a class back in 1979. Steve’s brother Mike, (’86) expressed it best, “Steve was doing what he loved to do. He was a top flight pilot”. Our condolences go out to Steve’s family

Klorig, William Joseph–7/2/2012: I planned on attending our 30th but will be at sea and miss a big year reunion once again. I am still the Senior Medical Officer on the USS Nimitz (CVN-68) and the Carrier Strike Group 11 Surgeon, and have another year in this tour. My medical school time slid my mandatory retirement date to the right so I intend to remain on active duty for a few more years. I am enjoying life as a Navy Family Practice Physician and still flying while enjoying a close association with the aviation community as an Aerospace Medicine/ Preventive Medicine Physician. My wife and I are still home ported in Washington near Bremerton where we hope to eventually retire.
