Moss, Dana W.–6/6/02–After graduation from the Academy, I completed my training at Quantico, became an infantry officer and suffered through hardship tours in Hawaii, San Diego and back at Quantico. During my 8 years in the Corps, I actually spent almost 3 years of that time “haze gray and underway.” I resigned in 1990 to begin working in Christian ministry and have been the director of a ministry for nearly 2 years.
The Marine Corps got a hold of me in ’75, the Lord got a hold of me in ’85, and my beloved wife got a hold of me in ’95. With one son here and other on the way (due October ’02), I can’t wait to see what gets a hold of me in ’05!

Nordman, Douglas–7/6/17–Retired since 2002 after 20 years of active duty in submarines. We reached our financial independence in the late 1990s (on a high savings rate) and I’ve never had a real job. “Youth is wasted on the young, yet retirement is wasted on the old.”
Married to Marge (’83) for over 30 years. We’ve lived on Oahu since 1989. Our daughter Carol (born & raised in Hawaii, Rice ’14) is a Surface Warfare Officer on active duty through 2019. Her spouse K.J. Pittner (USNA ’14) is an Info Professional in the Info Warfare community.
I’m the author of “The Military Guide To Financial Independence And Retirement” and I’m perpetually working on the next book. (All writing revenues donated to military-friendly charities.) I’m an enthusiastic surfer, a long-term traveler, an omnivorous reader, and a martial arts student. We’re also landlords and survivors of many home-improvement projects. Life is good.
